Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly sent fans into overdrive when they made an appearance in Tyneside on Saturday (March 29). Sky News broadcasters cut their live show and spoke with the Geordie icons who led celebrations as thousands of Newcastle fans lined the streets for a parade following last week’s Carabao Cup success. The Britain’s Got Talent hosts, 49, admitted they had to fight back tears as they became overwhelmed during the celebrations.

Eddie Howe’s Newcastle football team won their first silverware since 1955 for the first time in 70 years after seeing off Liverpool at Wembley. The popular duo celebrated with the club as they joined them on top of the bus which drove through Tyneside as hundreds of fans lined the streets. Ant and Dec provided coverage for the news channel as they also spoke to fans amid the excitement.

“We’ve only just started – we just left St James’s Park,” Ant began. “And already the roads are lined with thousands and thousands of people. This is amazing isn’t it.”

Dec commented: “Absolutely incredible. It’s taken a very long time to see the Newcastle players taking a trophy through the streets of Tyneside. It’s been a long wait but it’s been absolutely worth it.”

Ant couldn’t resist asking his co-host if he was near to tears amid the celebrations.

He asked: “Question is though – are you going to cry like we did at Wembley on the day they won?”

To which Dec agreed: “Probably,” as Ant added, “As probably you guys are as well,” he pointed towards viewers watching the scenes from home.

Now, as the city comes to a standstill, they welcomed the Britain’s Got Talent presenters with open arms. The duo posed for selfies as fans swarmed them after they arrived at the club’s stadium in the city centre with cup fever ringing clear two weeks on.

Ahead of their appearance, the duo told fans “We are going on an open top bus parade today with Newcastle United players and the Carabao Cup.”

“Ant’s been screaming like a girl for most of the day,” Dec revealed.

As Ant couldn’t hide his excitement as their dreams for the team come true, Dec went on: “We’re going to be interviewing the players on the parade and then ending up on the Town Moor where they are going to lift the trophy in front of everybody and we’re going to enjoy the day.”
