Silent Witness fans have declared they “can’t cope” as beloved characters tied the knot in a long-awaited wedding.

The highly successful crime series capped off its 28th season on Tuesday (February 4), with the finale, titled I Believe in Love, being broadcast on BBC One.

The tension-packed two-parter launched the previous night with a harrowing incident at a Syrian pizzeria, resulting in the loss of six lives. Emilia Fox’s Nikki Alexander and David Caves’ Jack Hodgson quickly leapt into action to hunt down the perpetrator.

In tonight’s gripping close, the Lyell team pieced together the mystery, buoyed by damning CCTV footage tied to a combat veteran.

With their wedding on the horizon, Nikki confided in Jack her wish for a low-key affair, despite his hope for grandeur, reports Plymouth Live.

“I just wanted it to be perfect for you,” he expressed, leading Nikki to reassure him with: “Marrying you, how can that be anything less than perfect?”

The couple impulsively brought their special day forward, with Kit (Francesca Mills) witnessing the union and Harriet playing the role of Jack’s best man.

Nikki professed during their private vows, “I have faith in you and us. I’m giving my heart to you,” eliciting a joyous promise from Jack: “And I’m giving mine to you, and I promise to cherish it.”

Euphoria spilled onto X (formerly Twitter) as viewers broadcasted their thrill over the touching conclusion, with one fan proclaiming: “These mini vows to each other ohhhhh I’m crying.”

Emotions ran high among viewers as one fan gushed on social media, saying: “Crying at #SilentWitness what a beautiful ending to a great series,” and another was moved by the tenderness of the final moments, commenting: “These vows are so so precious and beautiful. In response to the show’s undeniable success and the celebrations of its upcoming 30th anniversary, the BBC has officially announced that Silent Witness will return for its 29th season, following its confirmation this past January.
