Suzan Holder brands ITV ‘hypocritical’ over Gino scandal

ITV have been accused of hypocrisy over their handling of the Gino D’Acampo situation by a former Loose Women producer.

Suzan Holder appeared on GB News Breakfast on Sunday (February 9) discussing the current furore surrounding the celebrity chef.

Looking at the commentary in the Sunday papers she said: “Gino has been quoted as saying that, ‘because I’m Gino and everybody knows me, I can get away with things somebody else could not’, and I think that’s interesting.

“He said this in 2022 – I think the signs were there. I don’t know what he obviously did or didn’t do in reality – there is an investigation underway. People have alleged that he has been inappropriate in many ways.

“I feel, and I’m not defending it in any way. I’m speaking as a person who produces television for a very long time…I think he was given very mixed messages by production people.”

Expanding on her point she said: “In as much as he was on This Morning in an apron showing his bare bottom. He was given items to do where we made…fun of his accent, because it might sound a bit naughty that he said this, or he said that.

“Celebrity Juice was obviously a show he was on. I’ve no idea how half of the things on Celebrity Juice ever got past any censor, to be honest, I always was a bit amazed about that.

“I’m not defending him, and he should have known better. He has done some of the things he’s done.

But you can’t be having somebody on television and getting them to do all those sort of things and then throw your hands up in horror when they go a bit far, because they think it’s funny and that everybody knows that.

“So is ITV being a little bit hypocritical here? I think ITV is being hypocritical. I think the problem you’ve also got is these people think the talent is like all important television.

“No offense to people who are on air, but everyone needs producing, but you need strong producing, and you need someone to say to you sometimes, ‘if I were you I wouldn’t do that’.

“And if they do, then cross the line you need. You don’t even have to fire them. These people are on contracts. Just don’t book them again,” she said.

Dozens of allegations have been made against D’Acampo spanning over 12 years, accusing him of “sexually inappropriate” and “intimidating” behaviour. Gino has firmly denied all allegations made against him, calling them “deepy upsetting”.
