Birds of a Feather star Lesley Joseph issued a health update on Monday’s (June 9) episode of BBC Breakfast

Birds of a Feather star Lesley Joseph has issued a health update after recently undergoing a major operation. The actress, 79, who became a household name as the flamboyant Dorien Green, is set to take to the stage as she landed a new role in the musical Addams Family.

Ahead of the show, the star appeared on BBC Breakfast alongside co-star Alexandra Burke, who will play Morticia Addams on stage.

Before diving into the interview, Sally was quick to ask Lesley how she was, as the actress revealed that she suffered a nasty fall while rehearsing for a show last year.

Turning to the singer, Sally asked: “How are you? Lesley, tell us how you are. You’re recovering from a little bit of a shoulder..” Lesley revealed: “Rehearsing for panto last year with Mr Rinder, Robert Rinder. I tripped over and I had to have an operation.”

The singer confirmed that she is now on the mend and is back working: “But it’s back to the land of living and I’m able to do it, so I’m really pleased. Our first number in the Addams Family is a lot of.. And I can’t quite do that right now, but I’m back and fine.”

Turning her attention to her new role, Lesley, who plays Grandma, added: “It’s a very infectious musical, music is fantastic, and it’s just such fun to do, and I play a mad woman, I mean I play a witch. It’s a lovely show.”

It comes as Lesley recently admitted, “My time is limited,” as she opened up about her career. The star candidly reflected on her mortality as she approaches her 80th birthday.

The actress has made peace with the fact that her time in the entertainment industry may be drawing to a close.

“At my age, I don’t know how much longer I have left in the business,” she confessed in a recent interview with Woman’s Own. Despite this, she maintains her characteristic optimism, adding: “I’m still ambitious, but I know my time is limited.”

Lesley found fame after decades of acting when she stepped into the high heels of Dorien Green – a role that made her a TV icon.

The original run of Birds of a Feather ended in 1998. ITV revived it in 2014 and finally cancelled it in 2021.

Looking back, Lesley admitted the end came at the right time. “It came as a relief,” she said candidly. “I wouldn’t have wanted to see Dorien with a Zimmer frame.”
