Zoe Ball ‘chuffed’ for BBC Radio 2 replacement Scott Mills

BBC Radio 2 presenter Adam Porter has announced his departure after seven years on the station.

The broadcaster took to Instagram to share the news, revealing that he has decided to take voluntary redundancy after an incredible 24 year career at the BBC.

Adam, who has been a staple on Radio 2 and 6Music, will be leaving towards the end of March.

Posting on social media, he wrote: “After 24 years at the BBC, I have decided to take voluntary redundancy and will be leaving towards the end of March. I’ve loved working in the Radio Newsroom and being on Radio 2 and 6Music.

“I’ve worked with fantastic colleagues both in the newsroom and on air, and I’ve been there for some really big stories. But now is the time to move on to new waters. Stay tuned for plenty of boating content!”

Many listeners recalled fond memories of Adam’s time on air, with one fan writing: “Will miss you Adam. Particularly loved when you and Clare covered Tina Daheley’s maternity leave on Zoe’s breakfast show. Will look forward to seeing what is next for you.”

Another shared their shock at the announcement, saying: “Genuinely shocked by this news, but good on you for doing what is right for you. Definitely going to miss hearing your dulcet tones on the radio, but good luck to whatever you do in the future, Skipper.”

While Adam is stepping away from his BBC role, his farewell message suggests that he will be embarking on new adventures, with boating content being teased for the future.
