Good Morning Britain was interrupted minutes into the live show as Susanna Reid issued a statement on her co-star Ed Balls.
Good Morning Britain was brought to a halt minutes into the launch of the live news programme as host Ed Balls shared an exciting milestone anniversary on air. During Monday’s visit (April 28) to the ITV studios, the 58-year-old former politician woke up the nation alongside his co-star Susanna Reid.
The dynamic duo discussed some of the biggest stories hitting the headlines including the latest updates following the horrific Vancouver attack and Liverpool FC being becoming Premier League champions. But before they discussed the biggest stories of the day, Susanna Reid went off script when she passed on her birthday wishes to the former MP. She opened the show saying: “Before we crack on, let me just say, Happy Ed Balls Day.”

Ed Balls dat started on April 28, 2011 when the former shadow chancellor was urged by his aide to look on Twitter/X for articles mentioning his name. But instead of doing a simple search, he tweeted his own name out in error.
Since then, the social media platform rejoices in the madness of the internet gaffe, with the former politician even poking fun at the blunder by baking a cake featuring the online blunder. Thankfully, 14 years on, the broadcaster is still seeing the funny side of the awkward error, as his co-host poked fun on air.
He replied: “Oh my gosh, well Happy GMB day!” Susanna then squealed with excitement as she revealed the morning breakfast show was celebrating its 11th anniversary on the airwaves.
She revealed: “Yes, it’s Good Morning Britain’s 11th anniversary this morning. We launched on the 28th of April, 2014.” It didn’t take long before fans flooded to X – formerly known as Twitter – to pass on their birthday wishes online.

Despite the milestone moment, it was business as usual on the ITV programme, as the pair welcomed Labour minister Stephen Kinnock onto the show where he was quizzed over the pressure Chancellor Rachel Reeves is under following a call for a 3% pay rise for millions of NHS workers up and down the country.
