Ex-Labour MP tells caller she’ll be paying for hospital visits

Jonathan Ashworth sparked fury as he hit out at Nigel Farage on Jeremy Vine.

The former Labour politician , 46, joined guest presenter Robert Rinder on Monday’s edition of the Channel 5 programme, where he made a claim about what would happen in the Reform leader won the next general election.

Cheryl, from Derbyshire, called up and slammed Keir Starmer and Angela Rayner, declaring “they haven’t got the skills to run the country”.

The guest claimed the Labour party are “blaming the Tories for everything” and said they “need to put the British people first instead of investing money overseas”.

Cheryl revealed that she now supports Reform UK, explaining: “I would say that because there’s more common sense, more straight talking and they’re more in tune with what is actually going on and where the money’s being spent.”

Ashworth hit back: “If Nigel Farage gets in, you’ll be paying for a hospital appointment. You’ll be paying to see your local doctor. I don’t believe that’s common sense, I believe that’s bananas.”

The remarks sparked outrage from viewers who took to social media to slam the former shadow secretary.

One wrote: “Coming from Jonathan Ashworth, who lost his seat at the last GE. What a Womble!”

Another posted: “If it means I can get an appointment absolutely fine, tbh the majority of people who need genuine appointments would probably pay as they won’t require many appointments over their lifetime. Charge those who don’t attend, go after health tourism & maternity too.”
