Pete Wicks and Maura Higgins have reportedly gone their separate way. The pair have decided they are “better off as friends” after repeatedly clashing, a source has claimed.

Rumours began to circulate after they were spotted sharing a kiss at a Soho dinner in August, with the reality star duo regularly snapped together in the months that followed.

Pete, 37, and Maura, 34, remained coy about the status of their relationship, but it now appears their romance has offically fizzled out.

A source told MailOnline: “Maura and Pete have decided to call off their romance. There have been a few clashes, and it was eventually agreed they were better off as friends.

“Those closest to them know it’s been a very on and off relationship, which is why they were so resistant to go public in the first place. They remain close and share a deep connection.”

Pete and Maura have been friends since she shot to fame after leaving the Love Island villa in 2019. They have continued supporting each other throughout their flourishing careers, with both signing up to major reality shows at the back end of 2024.

Former TOWIE star Pete signed up to Strictly Come Dancing, making it to the semi-finals with Jowita Przystal. Meanwhile Maura headed down under as she appeared on I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!.

During an appearance on Loose Women in January, Maura played it cool when grilled about Pete.

Firmly stating “no” to the idea of joining the All Stars version of the Love Island, Maura declared: “My dating show days are done!”

The panel didn’t hesitate to delve deeper after her remark, prompting Maura to explain: “I don’t want to go on a dating show, I’ve turned down All Stars before and I turned down the Celebs Go Dating. I’ve done it once [Love Island] and I spent the whole time in Love Island single.”

Katie Piper then probed: “So is that you saying you’re not single?,” leading a flustered Maura to respond: “No, did I say that? I know what you’re doing! No, I never said anything, next question!”

Frankie Bridge directly questioned: “Is there anything going on with Pete?”, suggesting they’d make a great pair.

Maura responded: “Do we? I never really thought about it. He’s got better hair than me to be fair! There’s not really much to tell, I know that’s very boring, we’ve known each other for what, six years?

“We spend time together, we get on very well, our personalities are very very similar and he’s a great person but there’s actually nothing to tell. There’s really not though, no one believes me, there’s not!”

Pete hasn’t been shy on praising Maura, branding her “super intelligent’ and “incredibly witty” when asked about the star earlier this year.

Speaking on Paul C Brunson’s Need to Talk podcast, he said: “We have the same sense of humour, she is super intelligent and I think you know that is sometimes something people don’t realise about Maura.

“She is incredibly witty and we have always been there for each other for kind of the past six years at a distance where we have always been friends. We have always kind of been there for each other and whatever else.”
