Coronation Street legend Sue Cleaver has admitted that she finds one of her co-stars ‘impossible’ to work with.

Sue Cleaver is set to say goodbye to Coronation Street after two and a half decades of playing the beloved Eileen Grimshaw. While reflecting on her time in the iconic ITV series, the star has shared some light-hearted insights into the behind-the-scenes of filming intense storylines, including the recent harrowing storyline involving the death of Eileen’s sister Julie Carp, portrayed by Katy Cavanagh. Despite the emotional intensity on screen, Sue admitted to breaking character and bursting into laughter at the most “inappropriate” times.

Speaking on the podcast Off Script, she disclosed how during one tragic scene, “I laughed with Katy Cavanagh when she was dead on the floor, bless her heart.” The moment of laughter was triggered when one of Sue’s tears ended up in Katy’s nose, which they found hilariously absurd.

Furthermore, when it comes to the king of causing giggles, Sue revealed that her co-star Simon Gregson, known as Steve McDonald, takes the crown as being “impossible” to work with due to their uncontrollable laughter.

They co-manage the cab office Street Cars on set, where they have a prop diary filled not with script notes. She revealed: “We have a diary where we can be seen writing little notes. Really what is in that book is the most disgusting photographs of ‘Sue by Simon, aged 4.’”.

In a humorous twist, Sue mentioned she got her own back with a similar prank, only for the diary to “mysteriously” vanish one day, presumably to prevent any potential embarrassment if it were to fall into the wrong hands, reports The Mirror.

In a more solemn reflection on her departure, Sue also divulged details about her “emotional” and “perfect” final scenes, which viewers can anticipate airing over the next few weeks.

“I can’t give anything away, but it’s absolutely fabulous. They really did me proud,” she said, keeping quiet on the details.

“When I read it and saw it, I was really emotional. It’s the perfect ending. It is everything that I wanted. They asked me what I would like, and I decided a year ago that I was gonna go.”

Sue then went on to speak about Ryan Thomas’ return, who will be reprising his role as her son, Jason, for the big exit.

She said, “I called Ryan Thomas and said, ‘Ryan, I’ve not told work yet, but I’m gonna leave. Would you come back? I’d really like you to take me out.’ He said, ‘I wasn’t planning to, but I can’t refuse that, can I?’

“It just felt really right that he was there,” she said.
