Jane McDonald has lost a major gig just one day after making a huge career announcement.
Jane McDonald has been a beloved favourite across the nation since 1998 after hosting many successful travel shows. However, the entertainer recently swapped cruise ships for ITV studios, after hosting an episode of the iconic game show, The Pyramid.
The show’s hour-long format was filmed in 2023 and took place in MediaCity studios in Manchester in front of a studio audience with Jane at the helm. The Chase star Jenny Ryan was also involved in the pilot, with Jane posting a behind-the-scenes snap with The Vixen star on social media. However, as the show never returned to screens for more episodes, it has now been understood that ITV will not commission the show for a full series. According to The Sun, an insider said: “Jane is a brilliant broadcaster and worked really well on the pilot, and the contestants loved her.
“It’s not unusual for pilots not to be given a full series and it’s certainly not a reflection on Jane. She’s well respected by ITV, who have signed her up to host the rebooted Soap Awards this year.”

The original series aired as The Pyramid Game in the UK on ITV for five series between 1981 and 1990 with Steve Jones as host.
It was then rebooted by TV channel, Challenge in 2007 for one series, fronted by iconic singer Donny Osmond.
This devastating blow comes just one day after it was confirmed that Jane will be hosting the British Soap Awards for a second year in a row.
A glitzy photo of Jane from when she first hosted the star-studded annual event was shared on their official Instagram account.
The caption confirmed: “The British Soap Awards are back! And who better to host than the fabulous Jane McDonald! More details coming soon!”
Thrilled fans quickly took to the comments in a frenzy with praise and anticipation including one who quipped: “This deserves an award in itself.
A second commented: “Jane was incredible last time! Glad she is hosting again,” as a third chimed in: “Fantastic, our national treasure.”
Another penned: “I don’t watch soaps but I’ll be watching the awards just to see our Jane, luv ya hun.” (sic)
