Little Mix’s Jade Thirwall certainly knows how to make an entrance, and she didn’t disappoint at the BRIT Awards 2025 tonight (Saturday, March 1). The singer, now known as JADE, arrived with the ‘Simon Cowell’ character from her debut solo music video, causing quite a stir.

Her first solo single had fans buzzing with speculation that she was throwing shade at the music mogul following her X Factor stint in 2011. The lyrics of Angel of My Dreams include Jade selling her “soul to a psycho”, which many believe is a dig at Simon’s now-defunct record label, SyCo.

The music video features Jade, who is performing at this year’s awards, tying the knot with a towering male figure. The line “Got you a car, got you a house / Got you a suit, it’s Gucci / If I don’t win, I’m in the bin” fuelled rumours about the identity of this mystery man.

Jade, 32, made her grand entrance at this year’s glitzy BRITS with the larger-than-life character by her side, looking resplendent in all-white attire and clutching a white bouquet. The Newcastle-born starlet is up for two gongs, including Pop Act, sponsored by Capital, and Song of the Year for Angel of My Dreams.

Released in July last year, the track samples Sandie Shaw’s ‘Puppet on a String’, reports the Mirror. At the time of its release, Jade said: “It’s not as glam as it seems. In the beginning of our career you do think you are this puppet, but at the same time it isn’t true – we wrote a lot of our songs, and we were behind a lot of what we put out there. I resented that as a statement. So it felt natural to take that and show that it can be true and untrue at the same time.”

Jade joined Little Mix in 2011

Jade shot to fame with Little Mix in 2011, forming an iconic quartet with Perrie Edwards, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, and Jesy Nelson.

Fast forward to 2021, a year post-Jesy’s departure, the trio pressed pause on their group act, announcing a decade-long break to chase solo dreams. Amidst whispers linking the song to Simon Cowell, Jade set the record straight in a Beat Juice interview: “It’s not specifically about that.

“But I wanted the song to be my journey, from entering the music business to now, and what that felt like. That’s why the song feels so chaotic. The opening is like the music to that montage bit on The X Factor after you’ve won and you’re just catapulted into the industry.”
