The Wheel of Time airs weekly on Amazon Prime Video and the series sees Rosamund Pike as Moiraine Damodred, an Aes Sedai searching for the Dragon Reborn. The award-winning English actress and producer is known for her other roles in Gone Girl, State of the Union and for her work on 3 Body Problem.

Born in Hammersmith, London, she was the only child of opera singers Julian Pike and Caroline Friend. She was spotted by an agent while she was playing Juliet in a production of Romeo and Juliet at the National Youth Theatre.

She was subsequently turned down by every stage school to which she applied, but eventually studied English literature at Wadham College, Oxford. She took a year off to pursue acting and starred in several plays.

After graduating, she was offered a role as a Bond girl and MI6 agent assigned to aid James Bond in Die Another Day, making her the first Bond girl to have attended Oxford. She gained further attention in Gone Girl as Amy Dunne, and director David Fincher said she had been his first choice.

He was keen to cast someone who was not widely known, and he found her ‘difficult to read’.

As for her personal life, she had been in a two-year relationship with actor Simon Woods while at Oxford.

They would later play lovers Jane Bennet and Charles Bingley in Pride & Prejudice.

She then became engaged to the director of that production, Joe Wright, but their engagement ended in 2008.

Since December 2009 the star, who lives in Prague, has been in a relationship with Robie Uniacke, a businessman. They have two sons – Solo and Atom – who are both fluent in Mandarin.

In 2015, during a visit to China to promote Gone Girl, she mentioned her partner had given her a Chinese name Pei Chunhua.

She had insisted the Chinese media use her Chinese name otherwise “it would disrespect Chinese cinephiles”.

While Pei is a common surname in China, she explained Chun means honesty and Hua means China and is homophonic to “flower” in Chinese, which echoes with her first name.

One of her sons, Solo, won the global championship at a Chinese language competition when he was just 12 years old.

The contest is held by the Chinese government-run Hanban annually to promote Chinese language among international students.
