Holly Willoughby was left red-faced as she and pals Ant and Dec were caught out by a supposedly ‘easy’ question from the 1% Club.

A new video posted on ITV’s social media accounts sees stars including Britain’s Got Talent judge Alesha Dixon and The Masked Singer’s Kingfisher attempt to take on the show’s most head-scratching questions.

The show, hosted by Lee Mack, has become a surprise ratings hit, and has picked up a number of awards, including the National Television Award for Quiz Game Show for two years in a row.

In the clip, all of the celebrities were asked the question: ‘Which word continues the pattern to complete the sentence? Jo the chef likes eating chicken…’

The options were: ‘wings’, ‘nuggets’ and ‘jalfrezi’.

While Dec and Holly had an inkling about what the answer might be, Alesha was baffled by the question as she asked: ‘Who is Jo the chef?!’

While Holly, Ant and Dec appeared to have worked out a formula, they both still selected the wrong answer.

Alesha opted for Wings, while Holly and the Saturday Night Takeaway pair chose ‘nuggets.’

However, it was then revealed that the correct answer was ‘jalfrezi,’ as it contains eight letter.

Each word in the statement had a letter added to it, with the first made of two letters, the second of three, and so on.

In the comments, some stars questioned how the celebrity names managed to get the question wrong.

Posts included: ‘That wasn’t a 1% question, think it was 10 or 20% either way very easy;’

On Saturday, the 1% Club’s host Lee was left shocked after a contestant revealed the ‘heartbreaking’ reason she ended up on the show.

The comedian returned to front the latest series of the hit game show but one participant called Alice revealed she had no idea what she was doing there.

The comedian, 56, returned to front the latest series of the hit game show but one participant, known as Alice, revealed that she had no idea what she was doing there.

She said: ‘I don’t actually know what I’m doing here, I thought this was a a scam and my boyfriend was going to propose.’

Lee replied: ‘That’s heartbreaking!’

Alice admitted that she had applied for the show herself, but never thought she stood a chance and believed that the confirmation email was all part of a ruse.

Alice continued: ‘I applied myself, but I didn’t ever think I was gonna make the show.

‘When I got the email, I thought that was all part of the scam and he’d set it up really well.’

‘There is still part of me that thinks he might come out halfway through.’

Lee bluntly replied: ‘I don’t wanna shatter your dreams, but he’s not!’

The ITV game show features a studio audience who all face ‘logic and common sense’-style questions in a bid to win up to £100,000.

All questions have been put to members of the public beforehand, and the percentage of those who answered correctly goes down at each stage.

Alice continued with her fantasy that a proposal could be on the cards, and theorised that all other 99 contestants could be all part of the surprise.

Lee quipped: ‘Have you been taking drugs?! This is real, and we’re doing a quiz show!’

As a joke, the Not Going Out star got down on one knee himself and then quipped that Alice’s boyfriend would be sure to marry her if she walked off with the top prize.

In the end, Alice was knocked out of the competition during the 25% question, and got it wrong after wrongly connecting it to her proposal again.

She explained: ‘My name’s Alice, and you’re not gonna believe this but my boyfriend’s called Dan and I thought this was the question he was going to propose.’

Lee replied: ‘That is heartbreaking, that is absolutely heartbreaking, but never mind.

‘You did well to get this far!’
