British Olympian Sir Chris Hoy broke hearts all around the world when he announced that the cancer he was diagnosed with in 2023 has now been deemed terminal.
The 48-year-old father-of-two revealed that he had been given two to four years to live by his doctors, and this was not the only tragedy to strike the family as mum Sarra received her own diagnosis.
The 40-year-old, who shares two kids, Callum, 10, and Chloe, seven, with Chris, was recently diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of MS.

Speaking to the Independent, Chris opened up about the painful moment their kids realised this was an unfortunate situation with only one outcome when his young son asked him if he was going to die.
‘We agreed to be honest and clear with the kids to the extent we could at this stage. “None of us live forever” I said. ‘We all die at some point and no one knows when this will be. However, we hope that I’m going to be here for many, many years because of this medicine I have.’ he said.

Having had a few months now to come to terms with the shock news, Sarra recently sat down with Lorraine Kelly to chat about how the family have been coping.
‘You just don’t sleep, everything is awful,’ she began. ‘It was about trying to control what I could, and I just thought, I can’t do anything about cancer, I can’t do anything about MS, I can’t control any of that. ‘What can I do? What can I help? What can I change?’

Sarra said that despite all of the devastation their family has been dealt, the couple choose to instead focus on the positives.
‘When everything is spiralling just to stop and say, “right now, we’re safe, the children are safe, this can’t define us. We will not become the victims of this.”‘

‘With kids you don’t get a chance, there’s no time to stop and have a day in bed, you just don’t get that opportunity.’ she said.
The mum-of-two said that despite everything, people are surprised to hear that the family is ‘doing ok.’ What an inspiration Chris and Sarra are.
