A player on The Chase issued an apology as he shared that he felt “intimidated” by quizzer Anne Hegerty. The Governess was at the helm of the show, with Bradley Walsh presenting as usual, as four hopeful players tried to outsmart her to win a cash prize.

Jack from Sevenoaks, Laura from Swansea, Alex from Oldham and Tony from Surrey came together as a team to put their general knowledge skills to the test. First up in the hot seat was advertiser Jack.

After securing an impressive £8,000 in the cashbuilder round, Anne then offered the player £3,000, £8,000 or a whopping £30,000. Once he had conferred with his team, Jack made his decision.

Turning back to Bradley and the Chaser, the contestant explained: “Oh I am torn between the £8,000 and the £3,000. I want to get back but I am intimidated by Anne!”

She nodded her head and said: “Good,” as the player battled with his thoughts. He then halted the show as he apologised to his teammates, saying: “You know what, I’m going to go with my gut and go with the three. Apologies in advance.”

Jack on The Chase

Bradley had the contestant’s back as he said: “No, no, no. Three grand. Listen, don’t worry, it’s a great low offer.”

Fans at home did not accept the apology as they could not believe that the player, who had done so well in the cashbuilder round, had decided to go low.

One viewer posted to X/Twitter: “I’m a quizzer Brad …. So goes low – jog on Jack … #TheChase.” While another fumed: “#TheChase This game show has gone down the pan, everyone takes the low offer, never was this bad.”

Another said: “I’m a quizzer…. Want to get the house done and it’s my wife’s 40th coming up…… goes low. F***ing gutless #thechase.”

However, one fan defended the player’s actions, writing: “You have to wonder though, that even as an *eight* player, choosing the low offer was simply a reflection of how nervous he actually was…”

It seems that Jack could not get past the intimidating quizzer sat before him. As he went head-to-head with Anne his luck dwindled and eventually he was caught out – meaning he had missed out on a place in the final and was sent home with nothing.
