Pope FrancisĀ was admitted to hospital on February 14 after battling pneumonia for two weeks. Sky News Breakfast host Anna Jones delivered a breaking news announcement on Saturday morning (March 8) as she shared a three-word update received from theĀ Vatican, who stated the “night passed quietly” for Pope Francis.
“The Vatican says that Pope Francis is resting after a night that passed quietly in hospital. The 88-year-old Pope is in his fourth week of treatment at Roman Gemilli hospital,” Anna told viewers, before adding, “He has suffered a few bouts of acute respiratory crisis.”
The Holy See Press Office released a brief statement on Saturday morning about the Popeās health.
āThe night passed quietly; the Pope is resting,ā read the statement.

On Friday evening the Vatican said the Pope spent the day alternating between prayer, rest, and work, as his respiratory physiotherapy continues.
āDuring the day, the Pope uses nasal cannulas for high-flow oxygenation, while at night he utilizes non-invasive mechanical ventilation,ā it noted, adding that his āprognosis remains guarded.ā
A more detailed update is expected to be released later this evening.
This is now the longest the Pope has been in hospital ā and the longest period in which he’s been out of public sight ā since he took over from Pope Benedict in 2013.
