Netflix has some of the best science fiction and fantasy shows

Netflix is well-known for its impressive array of science fiction and fantasy offerings, from the likes of Stranger Things and 3 Body Problem to its reimagining of Lost in Space and Bodies. However, one show that may have slipped under your radar first premiered back in 2017.

The series, which was always intended to be a trilogy, has three seasons and concludes neatly. It boasts a 95 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a Popcornmeter score of 94 percent.

This sci-fi thriller consistently features on lists of the best shows of all time, with each of its three seasons being named among the top series to watch in the year they were released. This drama marked the first German-language original series for the American streaming giant, following hot on the heels of the success of Stranger Things.

Dark was the brainchild of creative duo and couple Baran bo Odar and Jantje Friese, and tells the story of time travel and a missing child. Set in the fictional German town of Winden, it follows Jonas Kahnwald (played by Louis Hofmann) and his friends as they search for schoolboy Mikkel Nielsen (Daan Lennard Liebrenz) who disappears in the town’s ancient caves.

Dark spans various time periods, from the present day to the 1980s, 1950s, 1920s and even the 2050s. Much like Stranger Things, the work of Stephen King served as a stylistic inspiration for the look of Dark, reports Surrey Live.
