This Morning returned to ITV with presenters Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary’s Friday takeover, however, viewers were left unimpressed. The show featured a special segment with organisation tips inspired by the recent release of Meghan Markle’s Top 10 Netflix show, With Love, Meghan.

This included advice on where to place specific items in the fridge and which food products last longer in a cupboard instead of being commonly placed in a fridge. Despite this, viewers were left enraged and took to social media with backlash which was sparked after Alison described the Royal as “Our Meghan.” One raged: “ARRR Meghan..?!! Hell no!!” As another echoed: “Why is our Meghan getting slated? Aww f*** off.” A third chimed in: “Alison slipping in the divisive racist card about OUR Meghan! What is her objective? This Morning should be a prejudice free zone.Unprofessional.”

One branded it a “Pointless segment – the only reason Meghan’s prop fridge is so tidy is because it only contains the ingredients she uses for that one episode. It’s not like it’s filled with nicked Wetherspoons ketchup sachets or unknown expiry-date Piccalilli.”

As another viewer remarked: “A tidy fridge like Meghan? it weren’t her fridge tho…!!” (sic) Another chimed in: “Alison playing the race card. Why is @StaceySolomon not getting stick for her fridge. Why is OUR Meghan getting stick? Might be that one is a chancer and the other is a self made woman!!!!”

Introducing the segment, Dermot said: “As the Duchess of Sussex’s new series, With Love, Meghan, has been making headlines since its release on Tuesday and some of them have been a little mixed.”

Alison added: “Her lifestyle tips have been described as ‘unrealistic,’ so today we’re going to be putting some of them to the test. We’ve sent Grace [Forell] out on a mission to find out whether having an exceptional tidy fridge is feasible.”

During the segment, Alison defended the Duchess and show against critics as she stated: “The thing is, people are slating our Meghan but eveyone’s doing it.

“You’ve got Stacey Solomon, she’s got a beautiful fridge, she’s not getting slated. Why is our Meghan getting slated,” as Dermott interjected: “That’s the bigger question, I suppose, isn’t it.”

A majority of the backlash the Royal faced was because she opted out of using her Montecito home for the Netflix show and instead rented a property just a few miles away.

Speaking to People magazine about the choice, she explained: “I wanted to protect that safe haven. We’re a close-knit family, and I love those moments — putting Lili down for a nap, having lunch together, having sacred time together at the end of the day.”
