Hannah Ingram-Moore has broken her silence for the first time on live TV since the Charity Commission found she had benefitted personally from her father’s charity.
GMB: Rob Rinder grills Captain Sir Tom Moore’s daughter
Good Morning Britain’s Robert Rinder grilled the daughter of Captain Tom, Hannah Ingram-Moore, appeared on the ITV show, as he issued a demand, saying: “I am asking you for the truth”. It comes as she came forward for the first time following the Charity Commission’s stinging report, but was grilled relentlessly by the host and his co-star, Kate Garraway.
Captain Sir Tom Moore captured hearts nationwide with his fundraising efforts for the NHS by walking around his garden. His valiant effort amassed close to £40 million, earning him a knighthood for his charity work. However, his daughter Hannah faced criticism after revelations that she personally gained from the Captain Tom Foundation in her role as director, alongside the now ex-trustee Colin Ingram-Moore. The regulator outlined a “pattern of behaviour” leading to personal gain for both parties. They also refused to contribute any part of the £1.47 million made from three books about Captain Sir Tom, despite initial promises of donations to the cause. Speaking on Good Morning Britain, she conveyed: “Of course, my mother died a long slow death of dementia and that’s why my father came to live with us … He died in a very public way.”

She remarked: “As I walk around, there are many people that talk about my father and the loss in my life. People weren’t able to discuss loss. The headlines were very negative, and we lost control of any sense of the truth. I had to bury my own grief.”
Rob Rinder questioned her about Captain Tom’s three books and suggested she had signed the contract on his behalf. “He signed the book deal, he had an agent who negotiated the book deal. There was never a contract with the charity,” she clarified.
“He lived with us. We didn’t think of him as a diminished man. He was paid that money, he decided where it went. Not a penny was received by him and us when those books went on sale. Charity money didn’t pay for the building or the hot tub.”

He then pointed out that Hannah “has no shame” as she replied: “What I can’t do is sit here and persuade everyone to believe our reality.”
In a separate interview, Hannah expressed regret for establishing the charity in her father’s name, describing it as her “deepest regret”.
She explained: “It didn’t need to be set up as a charity, we could have continued that legacy without it, because what it’s done is all but completely derailed our lives. It was set up with my father’s name and that is our deepest regret.
“There is nothing dishonest about what happened. The book said it would support the launch [of the foundation] and it did. There was never a specific amount of money required. I’m sorry [the public] feel misled, I genuinely am, but there was never any intent to mislead. If there was any misleading it wasn’t our doing.”
