The View’s Whoopi Goldberg made it clear that she had no interest in discussing Meghan Markle’s recent backlash.

America’s hit talk show The View descended into chaos as host Whoopi Goldberg appeared to fall asleep during a conversation about Meghan Markle. The Sister Act star refused to take part in the Hot Topics segment which explored the Duchess’s use of her HRH title.

Whoppi was joined by her co-hosts, panellist Sara Hines, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin and Alyssa Farah-Griffin, who were in hysterics as she sarcastically read the report. Responding to the claims that Prince William could strip Prince Harry and Meghan of their titles, the host jokingly shouted: “Damn them.” After asking the panel if it’s “a bad look for Meghan to still refer to herself as a Royal,” Whoopi opened up the conversation, but not before adding: “Wake me up when you’re done.”

As the panel debated the topic, the 69-year-old pretended to fall asleep but interrupted the discussion, stating: “Can I just ask a dumb question that I just woke up for?

“I think that it’s cringier that her friend aired it publicly,” Whoopi added.

This comes after Meghan sent a gift basket filled with jars of her homemade jam to her friend and podcast host Jamie Kern Lima.

However, this sparked outrage after Jamie shared a photo of the gift on social media alongside a note from Meghan, which read: “With the compliments of HRH The Duchess of Sussex.”

Although Meghan and Prince Harry quit their roles as working royals in 2020, a spokesperson for the couple asserted that they did not break their agreement with the late Queen Elizabeth.

They said: “Harry and Meghan retain their HRH titles; however, by agreement, they do not use them for commercial purposes.

“As Jamie notes in her teaser, she has had the jam for over a year, indicating that the photo and gift are not recent.”

They added: “While they do not publicly use ‘HRH,’ this was a personal gift, and their titles remain. This context should be accurately reflected in coverage.”
