described as one of the most meaningful moments of his career. The Morning Live star, 47, took centre stage during a historic ceremony marking Everton Men’s final game at Goodison Park after 133 years.
Held on Sunday, May 18, the post-match event followed Everton’s Premier League victory over Southampton. Gethin, a lifelong football fan, led the “End of an Era” tribute in front of 40,000 spectators and a national TV audience.
Sharing memories on Instagram, Gethin posted behind-the-scenes snaps and a video from the day, including a cheerful selfie with former boxer and co-host Tony Bellew. “What a history, what a day. Goodison Park, forever @everton,” he wrote.
Reflecting on the experience, he added: “On a personal note, one of the best experiences I’ve ever had… To compere the ‘End of an Era’ ceremony live, to speak with some of Everton’s legends… The script kinda went out of the window – it was pure emotion everywhere.”
Support quickly flooded in from fans, who praised Gethin’s performance. “You did a great job Gethin,” wrote one commenter, while another added: “Fantastic coverage – you and your team deserve a cold beer now!”
Though the men’s team has now closed its chapter at Goodison, the stadium will see new life as Everton Women prepare to make it their home from the 2025/26 season under captain Megan Finnigan.
Meanwhile, off the pitch, Gethin has also drawn attention for his close friendship with Morning Live co-host Helen Skelton. Though both have remained private about their personal lives, sources suggest their bond might be turning into something more than just friendship. Since his split from Katherine Jenkins in 2011, Gethin has kept his dating life quiet, while Helen has also remained tight-lipped following her 2022 separation from rugby player Richie Myler.
Whether it’s in love or sport, for Gethin, it seems a new chapter is just beginning.
