After a long night of expletive-filled speeches and incredible wins, the stars were seen making their way out of the 2025 BAFTA TV Awards

The BAFTA TV Awards saw celebrities and TV stars put on their glad rags and hit the red carpet at Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall in London.

Four hit shows had dominated in the categories this year as Baby Reindeer, Mr Bates Vs the Post Office, Rivals and Slow Horses all received nominations in a number of categories. Baby Reindeer topped the list with a total of eight nominations, followed by Mr Bates Vs the Post Office, Rivals and Slow Horses – which had six apiece.

However, it wasn’t Baby Reindeer’s night as they picked up just one of their nominated awards. The Traitors suffered a worse snub, as despite being nominated for three gongs they walked away with nothing.

It was a better night for actor Danny Dyer as he received his first ever BAFTA TV nomination this year while Ant and Dec were snubbed in favour of Joe Lycett, who wasn’t in attendance.

The star-studded ceremony as always was an eventful night on the showbiz calendar, with many stars hitting the red carpet. Yet, not everyone attended as McFly star Danny Jones, who won the latest series of I’m A Celebrity… and is a coach on The Voice, swerved the ceremony – weeks on from his scandalous kiss with Maura Higgins.

Meanwhile, Maura used the event as her big red carpet comeback – having kept a relatively low profile since her drunken snog.

The Mirror revealed all the news and updates from the BAFTA TV Awards. Take a look at what you missed…

Inside full wild afterparty chaos – barefoot and snogging

It was a night of chaos, tears and laughs for the stars before they headed to a boozy afterparty to celebrate their well-deserved wins.

Among those included Bridgerton star Luke Newton and his girlfriend Antonia Roumelioti enjoying a smooch in the street, while Claudia Winkleman strolled home barefoot.

MAFS UK star Ella Morgan needed a helping hand

MAFS UK star Ella Morgan was one of the first celebrities to take to the BAFTA TV Awards red carpet on Sunday – and she made a powerful statement. Ella turned heads in a black figure-hugging strapless fishtail gown, complete with a huge white ruffled skirt and elegant gloves.

But while the huge ruffled skirt looked stunning on the red carpet it was less than pratical attire for her journey home. Seen in the back of a taxi Ella struggled to contain her dress as it appeared to take up most of the cab space.

Special Award

Managing director of ITV Studios, Kevin Lygo, received the Special Award at the Baftas for Mr Bates vs The Post Office and urged all TV corporations to continue making series to “make power to account”.

“It really falls to us to remember that these are incredibly important things that must continue to be learned,” he said on stage at the Royal Festival Hall.

“At a time when funding is tricky, but not impossible, the ITV and the BBC must continue to make the power to account, institutions like the Post Office to account.

“It is part of a long tradition on TV of these genres that true stories that shine a light on corruption, criminality, miscarriages of justice… but nothing, I think, has had quite the effects Mr Bates has had.”

Ant and Dec lost out to Joe Lycett for the Entertainment Performance award in a huge blow. The comedian, who won for his Channel 4 show, wasn’t in attendance at the award ceremony.

The Traitors, which was up for three awards, was also snubbed on the night as they failed to pick up any awards.

The BAFTA for entertainment performance was given to comedian and actor Joe Lycett for his Channel 4 comedy programme Late Night Lycett.

Lycett “could not make” the ceremony, according to presenter Greg Davies, who joked he would be keeping the gong.

Birmingham comedian Lycett beat Geordie duo Anthony McPartlin, and Declan Donnelly for their Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, which is on pause, and Claudia Winkleman for BBC hit The Traitors among others.

Memorable Moment

Strictly Come Dancing has won the memorable moment Bafta, voted for by the public.

The win means that Strictly has not been snubbed during its 20th anniversary year as it beat stiff competition from Gavin & Stacey, Traitors and Mr Bates, along with Rivals and Bridgerton.

Professional dancer Dianne Buswell picked up the gong, which recognised a special dance routine with her celebrity partner, blind comedian Chris McCausland.

The winning couple’s “blackout” dance, which went viral on social media, saw McCausland place his hands over Buswell’s eyes as the room faded to black, mimicking his everyday experience.

When the lights returned, McCausland was spinning around with Buswell on his shoulders as pyrotechnics flared in the background.

Buswell said: “In one minute and 30 seconds of a dance, I feel like this told such a story. A story of hope, determination, resilience and vulnerability.”

She added: “This moment meant so much to the both of us, so I’m just so thrilled that we have this.”

McCausland was not at the ceremony but Buswell said: “Chris did have something he wanted me to say, and that is, ‘after 22 years in comedy, he wins a Bafta for dancing’.”

Best Entertainment Programme

The entertainment programme Bafta gong was picked up by BBC panel comedy show Would I Lie To You?, hosted by Rob Brydon.

Comedian Lee Mack, who heads up one of the teams competing to lie against each other along with David Mitchell, joked that they probably won due to Brydon’s advertisements for Bafta sponsor P&O Cruises, saying: “We’ve been nominated for eight years but now ‘Mr Cruises’ has done it for us.”

Brydon responded saying that his last advertisement was “five years ago”, and there was no “whiff of scandal” about them getting the prize while Mitchell also referenced the cruise line.

Mitchell said the company “is more of a threat to public service broadcasting”, than anything else happening.

The show has begun!

While we still have a wait to watch all the action on TV, the ceremony has begun. It was kicked off in Traitors style with Scottish actor Alan Cumming wearing the well-known dark cloak in the Scottish Highlands castle.

Cumming, who described himself as the “devilishly handsome” host of the US Traitors, was summoned to the Traitor turret and asked to host the Bafta TV Awards this year.

He donned a dark Traitors hood with an embellished C on the front as he stood inside the turret to be sworn in as this year’s Bafta host.

He was required to take on the “Bafta’s oath” in which he was asked whether he would “swear that should someone’s speech go on for too long you will be willing to cut them off regardless of status?” to which he quickly quipped “I do”.

He was then asked: “Do you swear that none of your outfits will suffer a wardrobe with malfunction?”

Cumming replied: “I do. I did the best of my ability. But you know, whatever pops out, pops out.” He also swore that he would not swear on-stage, but did not promise if he would avoid foul language off-stage.

“On stage, I will have the vocabulary of a nun. Offstage that’d be more like a trucker,” he joked.

Trump’s tariffs

Bafta chairwoman Sara Putt has said it is “way to early to tell” whether US President Donald Trump’s proposed 100% tariff on international films would affect the US relationship with the UK film and TV industry.

She told the PA news agency: “I think it’s way too early to tell at the moment. Who knows what that may or may not mean?

“What’s really important is that we keep the conversation going and we work with other organisations led by the British Film Institute and keep the dialogue sustained.”

Chief executive officer Jane Millichip also spoke from the red carpet and called for more “meaningful conversations” around Trump’s tariffs.

“We need a bit more meaningful detail before we have a meaningful conversation,” she told PA.

“I think the most important thing is, if you look at the history of film and television, the UK and the US have been in lockstep for decades, almost a whole century across film and TV.

“Culturally, we’re so tied and there is so much co-production happening, I think to unpick that will be like making eggs out of an omelette to be honest.”

Baby Reindeer and Mr Bates Vs the Post Office in running for top BAFTA TV Award

Mr Bates Vs The Post Office is set to go head-to-head with Netflix’s acclaimed mini-series Baby Reindeer for a prestigious BAFTA TV Award.

They face competition from romantic series One Day, based on David Nicholls’ best-selling novel, and BBC’s adoption drama Lost Boys And Fairies in the limited drama category.

Baby Reindeer, a dark comedy about stalking created by Scottish comedian Richard Gadd, has already bagged numerous awards, including an Emmy for best limited series. The show, which began as an Edinburgh Fringe production, is reportedly inspired by Gadd’s real-life experiences and has received high praise from critics and viewers alike.

The plot revolves around Gadd’s character Donny being stalked by Martha (Jessica Gunning), and made headlines last year when a woman claiming to be the “real” Martha sued Netflix. The awards ceremony, hosted by Scottish actor Alan Cumming at London’s Royal Festival Hall, will also see ITV honoured with the BAFTA TV special award for commissioning the post office drama Mr Bates.

This four-part series has reignited public interest in the subpostmasters who battled to clear their names following the Horizon scandal. Toby Jones, who stars as lead campaigner Sir Alan Bates, is up for the leading actor award, while Monica Dolan has earned two nominations for her roles in Mr Bates and James Graham’s crime drama, Sherwood.

In the amusing Instagram video, Kate is seen standing infront of the camera in a skin-coloured unitard as she asks the camera: “Have I ripped the crotch or do these actually have pee holes in them?”

The video then goes back in time to Kate wrestling to get the tight-fitting garment on as she pants and says: “Oh god it’s on.” She then adds: “I can’t breathe”. Big Brother star Kate then inspects the look in the camera and says: “I tell you what it’s skin coloured that’s for sure. That is a camel’s hoof if ever I did see one.”

As she models the underwear further she says: “I can’t work out if I’ve torn the crotch or if there’s a pee hole in there. If there is a pee hole in there, it means I can’t wear it. The hole is encouraging my tuppence to move outwards.” Before deciding against wearing it.

BAFTA TV 2025 nominations in full

The BAFTA TV Awards full list of nominations was released at the end of March – with four hit shows dominating the list.

Baby Reindeer tops the list with a total of eight nominations, followed by Mr Bates Vs the Post Office, Rivals and Slow Horses – which have six apiece. But with 134 shows in total among the nominees, having a big number is still no guarantee of a gong.
