Loose Women presenter Coleen Nolan was forced to interrupt the ITV chat show to share some “breaking news” about co-star Dame Kelly Holmes

During a live broadcast of Loose Women, host Coleen Nolan stunned viewers and her co-star Dame Kelly Holmes with a surprise ‘breaking news’ announcement.

Coleen, Kelly, Nadia Sawalha, and Corrie favourite Sue Cleaver all formed the panel on Thursday, May 8, when things took an unexpected turn.

It was announced that Dame Kelly, a renowned British middle-distance athlete, had received a prestigious accolade without prior knowledge. In the middle of the show, Coleen received news that her co-star had made the top five and paused to break the thrilling news. “But some breaking news now and huge congratulations to you Kelly.”

A visibly shocked Kelly couldn’t hide her astonishment as she demanded: “What is this?” Coleen revealed more about the unexpected honour, saying: “You have been named as one of the most empowering women in the last 25 years,” which was met with enthusiastic applause from everyone on set.

Flabbergasted by the recognition, Kelly exclaimed to Coleen: “That’s amazing,” and asked in disbelief: “How did I not know this?” The distinguished list featured top names, positioning Dame Kelly within the top five ranks – joining the likes of Michelle Obama and Tina Turner.

Coleen provided additional details: “Thousands votes and you are number five, along with Michelle Obama who came in first place and Tina Turner who beat you to fourth place,” reports Belfast Live.

Overcome with emotion, Kelly responded: “I’m really really chuffed with that,” But Dame Kelly wasn’t alone from the Loose Women cast to be honoured; Katie Piper also made an appearance on the celebrated list. The list was released by Galaxy in partnership with charity Young Women’s Trust.

Emotions ran high elsewhere during the episode when Britain’s Got Talent champion Sydnie Christmas delivered a stirring rendition of Vera Lynn’s wartime anthem, We’ll Meet Again.

Before gracing the stage, the panel delved into Sydnie’s perspective on the current crop of talent competing this year. “Before we let you go, I have to ask, who’s going to win it this year?” asked Coronation Street’s Sue.

To which Sydnie responded: “Normally, I always back the singers because I know how frightening it is up there but there is a little boy who plays a guitar and he plays it like his life depends on it.”

Coleen weighed in with confirmation: “That little boy is Olly Pearson,” as viewers were treated to a snapshot of the young guitarist.

Touched by his performance, the past winner Sydnie confessed: “I understand him because that’s how I feel when I sing, so he just breaks my heart.”
