BBC Breakfast suffered an awkward mishap as Carol Kirkwood was pulled off screen during her weather report. During Monday’s (May 19) episode of the hit BBC show, Jon Kay presented the day’s top stories alongside co-star Sarah Campbell, who stepped in for regular presenter Sally Nugent.

The duo were then joined by weatherwoman Carol, who was live from the RHS Chelsea Flower Show. The King and Queen, as well as celebrities, will get a first glimpse of this year’s Show today, after a dry spring has put pressure on the build-up to the event.

The annual garden extravaganza will address issues such as climate change, sustainability, well-being, and diminishing wildlife. However, just minutes into Carol’s segment, the show encountered an unexpected technical issue.

Jon started off by saying: “The King and Queen are going to visit the RHS Chelsea Flower Show today, and among all the plants and trees, there will be a bit more bark than usual.”

Sarah explained: “The names of the Queen’s new puppy, Bluebell, and Beth, who died last year, will be featured in Chelsea’s first-ever dog-friendly garden—it has been designed by Monty Don. It also features the name of the King’s dog, Snuff.”

Introducing Carol onto the show, Jon went on: “Carol is there for us this morning at the Chelsea flower show, and we’ll get a sneak peek, I think, of the dog garden later.”

Turning to a screen, everyone in the studio and viewers at home were expecting to see Carol pop up. However, the screen was blank, and they also lost sound.

Making light of the situation, Jon joked: “Oh, that is a really dark garden she has gone to.” Everyone burst out laughing as Sarah added, “Or the night garden.”

For a brief second, the blunder appeared to be fixed as Carol appeared on screen, but as she attempted to start her first sentence, the screen went blank again, and the weather reporter was pulled off screen.

Sarah gasped as she said, “Oh no.” Jon jumped in: “I was looking for bright flowers, sunshine, and a garden of life, but all we got was that.”

Reassuring fans that they are trying their best to fix the mistake, Sarah explained, “I’m sure once we’ve got the technicals working, we will be straight back to Carol because we all want to see what’s going on at the Chelsea show.”

Jon added: “Because she’s got insight on this first press day.” Turning to Sarah he asked: “I think it’s open to the public tomorrow, is that right?”

Sarah confirmed: “It opens to the public tomorrow, and today is all the journalists and celebs. Very exciting.”

Later in the show, the issue was resolved, as Jon announced, “We’ve fed and watered our technical equipment at the Chelsea flower show, and Carol is blooming again.” The camera then cut to Carol, who presented her segment without any interruptions.
