Brian May broke his silence about his wife Anita Dobson in a heartfelt social media post.

Sir Brian May reacted to his wife Anita Dobson’s surprise return to EastEnders, reprising her iconic role as Angie Watts in honour of the show’s 40th anniversary.

The actress, 75, made her final appearance in the soap more than 37 years ago, where she played the landlady of the Queen Vic pub from 1985 to 1988.

Taking to Instagram on Thursday (February 20) Brian, 77, praised her performance as he penned a heartwarming message about his other half.

He wrote: “And – they are saying – making TV history, and bringing tears to many eyes. My dear lady wife Anita has gone viral with this shocking and timely intervention to the latter day East Enders saga! Yes – I am proud!!! Bri.”

Brian accompanied the post with his actress wife’s emotional scenes which aired on EastEnders on Wednesday night.

His 3.5 million followers flocked to the comment section as one wrote: “I love the way you always speak of Anita with admiration and pride. So lovely.”

A second penned: “You should be proud Bri! We all loved Angie. It brought tears to my eyes to see her back. I never expected to feel so emotional but it’s because Anita absolutely smashes it as an actress. She’s amazing!”

A third agreed: “She was amazing! Made me cry. Didn’t want it to end!”

A fourth added: “Your Lady has a wonderful, unique energy! You are lucky to have each other.”

She said working alongside Letitia Dean, who plays Sharon, again was “seamless” and “incredibly emotional in a lovely, happy way”.

Meanwhile, soap legend Martin Fowler was dramatically killed off on EastEnders on Thursday night during a dramatic live episode.

The character, who has been on the BBC soap for 40 years, was brutally killed off in sad scenes as The Queen Vic collapsed during a fire. After remaining in the building to save his partner Stacey Slater, Martin sadly perished after a metal beam landed on him and crushed him.
