TalkTV’s James Whale kept his composure as he issued the tragic news that his time on his show could be over forever within weeks. He apologised for his ill health as he admitted he was “at the end” of his journey with stage four kidney cancer, a quarter of a century after he first began his celebrated show.

The condition has brutally spread to his spine, brain and lungs – and now the Daily Express columnist says he will no longer be receiving treatment. The news comes after a bout of flu saw the radio and TV host rushed to hospital for a stay in intensive care. He confirmed: “I’m at the end of my cancer journey. There is no treatment I can have anymore.” Gesturing to co-star Ash Gould, James continued: “I can’t tell you how grateful I am to Talk to actually let me on the air and sit next to him, which is a real pain in the butt, but I’ve been doing it for 25 years!

“It might actually be helping me, you never know, so I don’t let that cloud my judgment – but on the medication I am on, I’m all over the place.”

He issued an apology for being “unwell”, adding: “I’m hoping to go on for another few weeks, few months but as soon as I can’t do the show anymore, I won’t.”

He told concerned fans that anyone wanting to find out more about his prognosis should check out the podcast he shares with his wife, Tales of the Whales.

Fans shared prayers for healing, as one wrote: “I’ve listened to you for 30 years James. Broadcasting legend doesn’t come close to describing your career. Prayers and best wishes always for you.”

A second praised his “true British grit”, urging: “Make the most of every last minute sir, and don’t let the system take you sooner!!”

“I’ve the utmost respect for you James and it’s so sad to hear this. I’ve been a follower for so many years it’s you and Mike Griffin that kept me sane for many a year,” a third exclaimed.

James first came to prominence with his James Whale Radio Show, on Radio Aire in Leeds back in the 1980s, while he went on to be famed for his nationwide stints on TalkRadio’s TalkSport, TalkTV and LBC.
