The Game is a new four-part thriller coming to Channel 5 very soon which promises to be every bit as juicy as The Feud, The Au Pair, and The Wives (yes, they all have to start with the word The).

Not only will the upcoming new cat-and-mouse thriller deliver a tense plot that will keep us guessing, it also has an inspired cast. Step forward Jason Watkins and Robson Green, who are reuniting on screen for the first time in decades.

What’s The Game on Channel 5 about? What’s the plot?

The Game introduces retired detective Huw who finds himself drawn back into an unsolved case that continues to haunt him – and things soon take a chilling turn.

Years ago, Huw failed to solve the case of The Ripton Stalker. And when new neighbour, Patrick, utters the chilling sign off used by the Stalker to taunt Huw – “catch you later” – Huw becomes convinced he’s finally got his man.

A synopsis tell us: “When a seemingly friendly new neighbour moves in, Huw is convinced his past has just moved in next door. What follows is a gripping psychological battle with everything on the line, but is he hunting the truth or being hunted by obsession?”

What follows is a high-stakes game of psychological chess between the neighbours as Huw risks everything to unearth the truth. Is Patrick the Ripton Stalker? Or has Huw’s obsession pushed him to the brink?

Oh, and we think we missed an important fact… Huw’s former neighbour and golf buddy Frank was found dead in his bath. Coincidence?

How many episodes is it?

Channel 5 has confirmed that brand new thriller The Game will be four episodes of 60 minutes each (including ads).

Like previous Channel 5 The Au Pair, the series is expected to air over four consecutive nights.

Who’s in the cast?

BAFTA-winning Jason Watkins stars as retired detective Huw, who can’t let go of an unsolved cold case.

Of course, the always brilliant Jason is best known for playing DS Dodds in the tragically axed McDonald & Dodds, and the lead role in The Lost Honour of Christopher Jefferies. He’s just as comfortable (and amazing) in comedic roles, including Simon Harwood in W1A, and Gavin in Trollied.

Robson Green plays the suspicious new neighbour Patrick, who sends Huw’s world into a spiral. Like Jason, Robson has an impressive TV career behind him, including leading roles in Grantchester, Touching Evil, Soldier Soldier, Strike Back, and Wire in the Blood.

Jason and Robson have worked together before. The actors first appeared together more than 30 years ago in one episode of the ITV drama Soldier Soldier.

The pair later starred opposite each other in the BBC show Being Human, when Jason played a vampire and Robson a werewolf. However, The Game is the first time they have played the lead roles opposite each other.

Meanwhile, Sunetra Sarker plays Huw’s wife. She’s best known for playing Zoe Hanna in Casualty, Kaneez Paracha in Ackley Bridge, and Anji Mittel in No Angels alongside Jo Joyner – who is no stranger to a Channel 5 thriller herself, having starred in The Wives.

The supporting cast includes Indy Lewis as Margot Miller, Amber James as Jenny Atkins, Joshua Hill as Martin Flint, Jenny Rainsford as Tina Oakley, and Scott Karim as Paul Oakley.

When’s the start date? How can I watch it?

Channel 5 has not yet confirmed the start date for The Game, although we’re pretty confident it will be soon. Watch this space for more information as soon as we have it.

When the release date is confirmed, we expect the four-part thriller to air over four consecutive nights as is standard for short C5 thrillers. It will be available to watch on Channel 5 and Channel5.com.
